Thursday, 5th September, 2019 – Bright Tangerine has announced a new Left Field Camera Cage for the newly announced Canon EOS C500 Mark II full-frame cinema camera.
Bright Tangerine was invited to work with Canon to develop a cage system at the same time that the camera was being developed. The new EOS C500 Mark II camera fitted with the Left Field Cage will be displayed at IBC 2019, in Amsterdam from September 13-17 at Canon (Hall 12, Booth D60) as well as Bright Tangerine (Hall 12, Booth E69).
Building upon the popular Canon EOS C200 Left Field Cage, the EOS C500 Mark II cage features a seamless, form-fitting design to create a complete cage that removes any physical stress from the camera body.
- New patented Open•UP quick release system – Slide, Lock & Vertically Release in seconds
- Operator Friendly – makes balancing easier on gimbals or handheld with additional C500 Mark II modules
- Seamlessly Integrated – Slimline & low profile with no hard to reach buttons or dials
- Lighter & Stronger – complete camera protection without excess baggage
- Matte anodised finish for durability
- Extremely lightweight – Only weighs 1kg (2.2lb)
The updated Left Field Universal 15mm LWS Baseplate features the brand new, patented Open•UP quick release system that lets you slide, lock and vertically release in seconds without the risk of the camera coming off.
The quick release system securely works with any ARRI Standard compatible dovetail, even those that are out of specification due to tolerances and doesn’t require manual adjustment of clamping tension. The cage has been specifically designed to let camera operators or assistants to effortlessly handle the camera, even when using gloves.
Invited to work with Canon, the Left Field Cage contours around the EOS C500 II to create a load-bearing frame, protecting the camera. The complete cage only weighs 1 kg (2.2 lb), making it 30% lighter than the current Canon EOS C200 Left Field Cage.
The Sliding Top Plate and Top Handle have also been modified for a lower centre of gravity which makes operating the camera smoother. When attaching the EU-V2 expansion unit or a CODEX recorder to the rear of the EOS C500 Mark II, the top plate can slide back and forth for better weight distribution and balance.
Two 15mm rods can be mounted on either side with a single clamp locking down on both sides, to reduce setup and pack down time.
The baseplate uses interchangeable riser blocks so that it can be used with other cameras ranging from the Sony Venice to the Blackmagic Design Ursa Mini Pro and many others.
During the design process, a lot of the weight was reduced, making it considerably lighter. The complete cage only weighs 1kg (2.2lb). By comparison, the Bright Tangerine Canon EOS C200 Left Field Cage weighs 1.472kg (3.3lb) making the EOS C500 Mark II Left Field Cage 30% lighter.
The Canon EOS C500 Mark II features optional extension unit modules which adds length to the body. By using the sliding top plate, operators are able to balance the camera for better weight distribution and ergonomics.
