Etheria Film Night: The Best Horror, Sci-Fi, Action Films & Shorts From Female Directors

Fans of horror, sci-fi, action, fantasy and thriller films owe it to themselves to check out the Etheria Film Night this Saturday at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Each of the films are directed by women, showcasing some of the best pieces in the industry.

The Feature portion of the night will begin at 4:00pm, while the short screening will begin at 7:30. Tickets for the feature are just $11, as are the tickets for the short film series and cocktail party. You can purchase them at www.EtheriaFilmNight.com/tickets.

Etheria will also be honoring Jane Espenson (HusbandsOnce Upon a TimeBattlestar GalacticaBuffy the Vampire Slayer) with the 2015 Inspiration Award for “her work in some of the most beloved genre TV series of all time and for inspiring emerging women filmmakers to write and create their own genre projects”. If that’s not enough, then you can expect to see a number of other celebrity guests, such as Clare Kramer, Juliet Landau, Eugene Byrd, Brea Grant and many more.

INNER DEMON
(2014, 84 minutes, Australia) – Horror – Written and Directed by Ursula Dabrowsky

“You Don’t Have To Die To Go To Hell”

The second film in Sue Brown’s DEMONS Trilogy, INNER DEMON will have its North American Premiere at the 2015 Etheria Film Night showcase on June 13.

INNER DEMON tells the nightmarish tale of Sam, a teenager abducted by a serial killer couple. Sam manages to escape and find refuge in an isolated house only to discover that it is home to greater terrors and a malevolent spirit. Hiding in a cupboard, bleeding to death, and waiting for her chance to escape, Sam is propelled into a struggle for survival – one that will push her to the limits not only physically and emotionally, but spiritually.

Short Films

SHEILA SCORNED
(USA, Action/Thriller, 17:45) – Directed by Mara Gasbarro Tasker

Sheila Scorned follows the violent misadventure of Sheila Johnson, a jaded and quick tongued dancer at a gentleman’s club. One night, after noticing an old flame in the crowd, Sheila seduces her ex, Charlie…and kills him.  But her plans to get home are interrupted when Charlie’s tie to a local gang of misfits comes back to bite her.  Now abducted and trapped in a warehouse, Sheila has to fight her way free from their violent and sexual advances.  Unluckily for the men, Sheila’s got a penchant for ass kicking. And she can turn into a bit of a psychopath when she feels slighted.

SHEVENGE
(USA, Fantasy/Action/Comedy, 11:31) – Directed by Amber Benson

From Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Amber Benson comes this twisted, darkly comedic, genre-bending tale of revenge. A revenge of the worst kind – Shevenge!

EL GIGANTE
(Canada/Mexico, Horror, 13:42) – Directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero

After attempting to cross the US/Mexico border in search of a better life, Armando awakens in an unknown room, his body broken down and a Lucha Libre mask sewn into his neck. He attempts to escape, but is surrounded by a sadistic family, who watch him with hungry eyes. The only chance for Armando’s survival in this hellish nightmare is to last in a wrestling match against the most terrifying villain of all: GIGANTE!

GÖDEL INCOMPLETE
(Australia, Science Fiction, 13:21) – Directed by Martha Goddard

Gödel Incomplete is a time-travel love-story between one of the great minds of the 20th century, Kurt Gödel, and a lonely particle physicist, Serita Cedric, a research student working at the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. Their affair becomes the trigger for his theory on time as one event feeds into the next and it becomes impossible to tell which came first.

DE NOCHE Y DE PRONTO
(Spain, Thriller, 19:53) – Directed by Arantxa Echevarria

Home alone in a deserted apartment building during the Christmas season, Maria is startled to receive a visit from a desperate man claiming to be her upstairs neighbor whose apartment has been broken into by thieves.

SLUT
(USA, Horror, 20:49) – Directed by Chloe Okuno

A dark, coming of age thriller about a 16-year-old misfit named Maddy who lives alone with her grandmother in a small town in Texas. When Maddy crosses paths with an older, charismatic Stranger- a fellow misfit who’s passing through town- her quiet, monotonous life takes a dangerous turn.
