Just in time for New Year, Blackmagic Design announced the availability of Camera Utility 2.0. This latest Firmware affects all cameras giving each one new features, bug fixes and other enhancements.
For the Blackmagic URSA it adds support for Apple ProRes 444 recording in 4K and HD.
For the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K 2.0 will improve performance improvements for optical fiber output. For the Blackmagic Studio Camera it fixes an issue where the overlays settings are not remembered after turning off camera.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera gets resolution for an issue where dropped frames are occurring during ProRes LT and Proxy recording.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera gets performance enhancements and improvements.
Blackmagic Design Camera Utility 2.0 requires at least Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks or later. Windows users must have Windows 7 64-bit or later. For both operating systems you’ll need a USB 2.0 port.
Before installing the software, it is recommend that you run “Uninstall Camera Utility” first. The video above is for a previous firmware update, but the steps are the same.
After loading the software on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF or MFT, you may notice a slight flickering on the built-in LCD screen. This is normal and expected behaviour. The flickering will go away after a few minutes of operation.
