While the DP7 Pro has been out for a bit, SmallHD was showing off some of the awesome new upgrades to its software. Most notable among these upgrades is live, on monitor color grading and SmallHD’s Wes Phillips was able to tell us more.
Using some flat footage from a Blackmagic Pocket camera, Phillips showed off the color adjustments. The DP7 menu actually creates a split screen of sorts to show you the before and after image, letting you see a direct comparison.
In addition to color grading within the monitor, you can also send the grade down stream to another monitor to help keep your monitors consistent. You can even export your grade to various formats to use in your color grading software of choice.
Finally, SmallHD provides a few corrective LUTs, but can install your own to apply looks quickly within the monitor. This lets you “massage” that look with the monitor’s tools and export it all for final editing.
These new features is available as a free update for current DP7 Pro owners. For those who don’t, the DP7 Pro series costs from $1,399 to $2,999 (depending on the model) and has these features pre-installed.
