NAB 2016 proved to be a packed show for Zeiss, with numerous new additions to their various lens families. We spoke once more with Snehal Patel of Zeiss about their latest Compact Zoom and Superspeed lenses, as well as the very cool new Master Anamorphic Flare Sets that let you swap different looks onto your lens.
The Master Anamorphic lenses have been jointly developed by ARRI and Carl Zeiss. The anamorphic lenses offer a unique optical performance, with optimized flare and bokeh as well as state-of-the-art lens barrels featuring improved dust and water protection.
The new ARRI Master Anamorphic Flare Sets are highly versatile and economical accessories for the ARRI/ZEISS Master Anamorphic lens series. Each of the seven Master Anamorphic focal lengths has its own specific flare set, comprising easily replaceable front and rear glass elements that can be used individually or in combination to provide the lens with three additional looks for enriched on-set creativity.
The front and rear glass elements that come with each flare set have a special lens coating that encourages flaring, ghosting and veiling glare. These image effects create a visual style that is consistent across all of the flare sets and can be controlled or tweaked via the iris setting, as well as the positioning of lighting fixtures. The front element can be used on its own, as can the rear, or they can be used in combination; each permutation provides a distinct look without sacrificing the resolution, lack of distortion or corner-to-corner optical performance for which the Master Anamorphics are famous.
The Compact Zoom CZ.2 70-200/T2.9 is first in a line of zoom lenses designed for the owner-operator from Carl Zeiss that allows them to be used with a wide variety of current and future cameras. The new Compact Zoom CZ.2 is as versatile as it is powerful and incorporates features never before seen on a lens of this kind. With its zoom length of 70–200 mm, it gives you a wide range of creative options. And thanks to its robust, cine-style housing (which also allows for the use of a follow-focus system), its full-frame coverage and interchangeable mounts, it will be a reliable partner for years to come.
Whether you’re shooting a commercial where exquisite color rendition and high contrast is important, or a tense, dramatic sequence in low light situations for a feature film, Compact Prime CP.2 Super Speed lenses offer you the performance you need to get the scene right. They are an ideal complement to the existing range of CP.2 lenses. The Compact Prime Super Speed lenses show less aberration which results in an overall better image quality. Images appear much sharper and show a much higher contrast. The CP.2 Super Speed lenses cover a full-frame sensor format and are equipped with the interchangeable lens mount system for use with a variety of cameras ranging from HDSLR to professional cinema cameras.
