Atomos is now offering their popular Shogun recorder for $500 less than before, while the Ninja Assassin sees a $300 price drop, making 4K recording available for under $1,000.
The Shogun’s new price will sit at $1,495, making the 4K recorder/monitor even more of an attractive price. This is great news for all of us, as the Shogun is a fantastic 4K recorder and monitor that’s become our go to monitor for nearly every project. Beyond just us, one of the most accomplished production and visual effects companies in the industry, Stargate Studios, actually owns 14 units of the Shogun that they use worldwide. We spoke with Stagate’s founder and CEO Sam Nicholson about their use of the Shogun, which you can find in our interview here:
With a few Shogun features removed, the Ninja Assassin is the other Atomos 4K recorder that is perfect for those who don’t need SDI, RAW recording, built-in conversion, Genlock and XLR audio connections. As those features aren’t necessary for every shoot, the Ninja Assassin makes a great choice for those attracted by getting 4K at the new $995 price.
As if that weren’t enough, Atomos is also offering a free CFast card with a purchase of the Ninja Star. This offer only lasts through February 2016, but at just $295 (with the added CFast savings of $184), there’s no better time to pick up the tiny ProRes recorder. Finally, Atomos have also dropped the price of their HD converters, the Connect and Connect-AC, to just $195.
Atomos CEO and co-founder Jeromy Young explained the price drop, expressing a desire to have 4K: “We are very proud to offer such cutting edge technology at truly amazing price points. 4K for under $1K will continue to speed up 4K adoption globally. Don’t forget, these are the most affordable 7” Full HD monitors on the planet, ignoring the 4K/HD recording, playback, and editing capability we give you for free.”
