Big things are happening at Atomos, several of which we were able to speak with Atomos’ Heather Williams about at the BandPro Open House last week. We spoke with Heather about the exciting release of the Shogun, their current sale on the Ninja Star, and their upcoming power station. We’re also giving away a Ninja Star to a lucky fan, so read through on how to win!
First off is the shipping of Atomos’ much awaited 4K recorder, the Shogun. The Shogun records 4K, ProRes footage over HDMI and SDI, making it the perfect 4K option for many cameras on the market today. For some, like the Sony A7 series, it’s required to take advantage of the camera’s 4K capabilities. Heather also let us know that an early 2015 update will be available that will also provide CinemaDNG, Canon, and Sony Raw shooting, as well as the ability to record higher frame rates. With XLR cables and adapters, the Shogun records audio just a perfectly as it records video. Finally, the Shogun records to SSDs, with a Raid Caddy option to be made available January 2015.
Heather also spoke about their increasingly popular Ninja Star, which is actually part of a sale until the end of the year. That sale offers a Atomos 64GB CFast card for 50% off with the purchase of the Ninja Star. So for about $374, you get the Ninja Star and CFast card you need to get started, as opposed to the usual cost of the two being $454. This makes the already highly affordable recorder and even better option for those who need a simple recorder without a monitor, or to use with a GoPro or similar camera.
