Band Pro Open House: Band Pro & IB/E Unveil New Macro Lenses

About this time each year manufacturers and shooters alike look forward to the Band Pro Open House. It’s a great time of catching up with friends and seeing some great products. Typically you expect an update on when a product may ship or perhaps an announcement of some new firmware. What you don’t expect is a new product announcement in December. However, at the 2015 Band Pro Open House that’s just what we got: a special presentation was made by Band Pro and IB/E revealing an upcoming line of full frame Macro Lenses.

Presented by Band Pro President & CEO, Amnon Band and IB/E President, Klaus Eckerl, the Macro FF lenses were designed  to “address the industry-wide movement toward larger format sensors”. Such sensors would include those found in the RED Weapon, ARRI ALEXA 65, Sony A7, etc. The family will include focal lengths in 100mm, 150mm and a 180mm, and feature “1:1 magnification, consistent T-stop T2.9, as well as robust and durable cine mechanics.”  One of the best features of these lenses is their mount.

The UMS or Universal Mounting System allows the lenses to mount to any mount out there either PL or Canon EF, Sony NEX E, Sony FZ, MFT and Nikon F Mount without reshiming.

We took some time to interview Band Pro’s Jeff Cree, SOC about the lenses prior to the unveiling. He was able to give us a bit more detail on what to expect from the Band Pro – IB/E joint venture and how they’ll shape the future of both companies.

Band Pro Unveils New Line of IB/E Macro Lenses

BURBANK CA – IB/E President, Klaus Eckerl and Band Pro President & CEO, Amnon Band unveiled a new line of professional APO Macro FF lenses at Band Pro’s One World Open House event on December 10th, 2015.

The new macro lenses were designed to address the industry-wide movement toward larger format sensors (including RED Weapon 6K and 8K, Sony A7, and ARRI ALEXA 65 cameras).  These larger sensors deliver a convincing film-look and interesting bokeh due to their very shallow depth of field, and require lenses that can cover their larger camera sensor sizes.

The new APO Macro FF lens family consists of 3 focal lengths: 100mm, 150mm, and 180mm.  The lenses feature full frame (24mm x 36mm) coverage, 1:1 magnification, consistent T-stop T2.9, as well as robust and durable cine mechanics.

Based in Germany, IB/E is a globally respected optics manufacturer known for cutting edge expanders, adapters, and lenses, including the new Arri 65 lenses.
