Blackmagic Design has once again made it big at Sundance, with four films shot on Blackmagic Cameras, and another 35 using DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The standout from all of this is the Pocket Cinema Camera, used on all four of this year’s list of films. Having used it frequently ourselves (even using it alone to cover NAB one year) I can attest to the Pocket Cinema Camera continuing to be a rockstar. As mentioned in our interview with the director and DPs on “Operation Avalanche” last week, it’s light weight design and great image quality is perfect for numerous types of shooting. Especially when you want to be on the go as well as discreet.

Of course, DaVinci Resolve Studio was a big presence as well, with 35 films using the color grading software turned editor. Some highlights include Spike Lee’s “Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall” (with Colorist Roman Hankewycz of Harbor Picture Company) and Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers” with Colorist Mark Todd Osborne.
