CineGear 2015: Atomos Shogun & Power Station Updates

Atomos and their line of digital recorders have been a force to be reckoned with for some time now. Between the continuous updates to their award winning Shogun 4K recorder and the upcoming release of their Power Station, there’s no sign of that changing soon.

Shogun 6.3/6.4 Update

 

Originally planend as the 6.3 update for the Shogun, the next update will actually include features from Atomos’ 6.3 and 6.4 updates. However only the 6.3 update was on display at CineGear with no shortage of new features. Not just bug fixes and tweaks mind you, but full fledged new functionality. These features help extend the purpose of the Shogun well beyond just a recorder or even a production monitor. New features included in the 6.3/6.4 update include:

• Custom meta data tagging
• GenLock
• Anamorphic de-squeeze (including Panasonic 8:3)
• Pre-roll record (8s HD, 2s 4K)
• Custom time lapse recording (multi stage, duration & interval)
• Custom playlist generaton
• LUTs applied on output
• Sony FS series RAW to ProRes, DNxHR and CDNG
• Cinema 4K DCI support (4096 x 2160p)

 

In addition to these awesome features, Atomos is still offering their $240 Shogun Action Pack (Shogun Armor, Sunhood, LCD Protector & Travel Case) for FREE for those who purchase a Shogun before July 1st. For those who have already purchased a Shogun, the Action Pack will be available for 50% off in July, making it an attractive buy for those who missed out on the previous special.

Power Station – $295

The Atomos Power Station is a dual battery system for powering your camera and additional devices in the field. It mounts underneath your camera using a 1/4″-20 screw with thumbwheel and features slots for two Sony L-series type batteries. Two DC outputs and an included splitter cable allows powering of up to three devices, such as an LED light, a monitor, and a recorder. Optional DC adapters are available to provide power to popular cameras. And because batteries are hot-swappable, you can replace batteries on-the-fly without losing power to your devices.
