We met with Snehal Patel of Zeiss and Jeff Cree of Band Pro at Band Pro’s Burbank store where they talked about the customizability of Zeiss lenses, as well as how Band Pro’s internal lens service department with Focus Optics is giving older lenses new life.
Band Pro’s partnership with Focus Optics affords them the ability to offer an awesome level of customization to their customers. As Zeiss’ Snehal Patel notes in the video above, Focus Optics can and have taken Zeiss’ older photo lenses and converted them into cinema lenses. This can give you access to an incredible amount of variety in lens looks, in many cases for a fraction of the cost of higher priced lenses with a similar look. Also, with continuously growing sensor sizes, Zeiss’ older lenses can actually cover an 8K sensor. This makes the use of these older lenses highly viable not only in price, but in function as well.
Focus Optics does all this work and more internally at Band Pro’s Burbank offices. As amazing as their lens customization is, they also act as Band Pro’s lens repair team, in addition to taking on other outside work.
