Back in 2008, Canon released the EOS 5D Mark II, which forever changed the way we shoot video. It was an act of rebellion, as novice and pro shooters alike traded their dedicated video camcorders in lieu of video-enabled DSLRs. Thus, the DSLR Revolution was born, and with it, an entire universe of support gear.

Fast-forward six years, and DSLRs are stronger than ever, but there are some differences. Some have evolved into mirrorless cameras, like the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH4 and Sony a7S, and instead of HD, some of these compact cameras are now capturing 4K resolution. New manufacturers, like Blackmagic Design, have entered the game and taken the DSLR’s single-sensor form factor and evolved it into cameras that are designed strictly for video capture.

Although these cameras are loaded with new features and capabilities, if you want to create professional-looking video, you’ll need additional gear to achieve this and, thankfully, the market is flooded with accessories that are crucial to your workflow. With so many options, one can spend more time looking for gear than shooting, so to help you traverse the marketing mire, we’ve conducted a thorough search to find the best new products to help you shoot like a pro.
