Eddie Redmayne On What It Takes To Play Stephen Hawking

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a screening of “The Theory of Everything” hosted by The Actor’s Fund. The screening was followed by a Q&A with actor Eddie Redmayne who has already won a SAG Award, Golden Globe and is nominated for the Academy Award for his performance.

We were able to film the Q&A where Redmayne talks about how he got the part, working with “Man on a Wire” director James Marsh and how he dealt with the physical transformation required for the part.

According to Redmayne, physical preparation included working with ALS patients as well as an obstetrician and a choreographer to make the physical transformation.

He says of working with James Marsh that he encouraged not only the actors but the entire crew to vocalize any suggestions in order to make the film better, and he attributes the success of the film to this level of openness.
