By now, you’re probably aware of JVC’s New 4K Camera, the GY-LS300CHU. Beyond its 35 CMOS sensor, one of the most interesting aspects of this camera is the fact that it isn’t a fixed lens video camera.
At first glance, this may be hard to believe simply because it looks very much like a traditional fixed lens video camera. Although the mount is micro four-thirds, if you buy now through EVS, you’ll get your choice of a free Metabones Adapter for EF or Nikon G lenses or a free Rokinon MFT 24mm or 35mm lens. Not a bad deal, and if you’re stocked with EF or PL lenses, there’s no need to switch to MFT.
However, new cameras are coming out all the time, and even though $4000 isn’t a massive price considering the feature set of JVC, you may still be on the fence. Thanks to EVS, now you can try it before you buy it. EVS and JVC are offering a “try & buy” program where you can get a free 1 day rental (w/deposit) on the camera to try it out.
Record footage and then take it to your editing system, put it through its paces and see if the JVC is right for you. Yes, if you rent it on a Friday, you’d have it for the weekend. The program lasts until the end of June but could be extended.
This camera doesn’t just record 2 copies of your program simultaneously, but you can even stream live HD over the internet to content delivery networks such as USTREAM while recording full HD.
