LAPPG In January: Get $35 Off Film Financing Workshop, Fitness In Post & Whether Awards Matter

The Los Angeles Post Production Group has a couple of events going on in January. In addition to their usual monthly meeting, they’ll also be holding an awesome film financing workshop, which HDSLR Shooter readers can get a great discount on. January’s monthly meeting guests include Jon Gann (Executive Director of the CINE Golden Eagle Awards and founder of the DC Shorts Film Festival) debating the importance of awards for a filmmaker’s career, as well as Zach Arnold of Fitness In Post.

7theditionFFAre you ready to cash in on the $3 billion independent film market? LAPPG’s workshop, SHOW ME THE MONEY WORKSHOP — FILM FINANCING AND THE INVESTOR, will be on Saturday, January 17th from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. Film finance expert and author Louise Levison will take you through the ins and outs of financing your film, and remove some of the mystery behind the process. Some things Levison will go over are:

  • Where the investors are
  • What investors require from producers
  • What investors expect when investing in your project
  • The 6 most common mistakes to avoid with business plans
  • Why investors want more than a script and a budget
  • Forecasting those pesky revenues and costs while keeping one foot on earth
  • Getting other people’s money: what they want to know
  • Pitching to win: you can’t fool investors most of the time
  • Why common sense often trumps a lot of rules
  • What you need to get the investors you want

Now, normally this workshop costs from $100. However the amazing people behind the LAPPG have given us a $35 off code for HDSLR Shooter readers. All you have to do is type in HDSLR at checkout to get $35 off your ticket. Now, this only works on general admission tickets online, which are $90, so $35 is a big deal. Be sure to book your ticket before the event however, as this discount only applies online, and its $100 at the door. So be sure to type in HDSLR when you register here:

As for the monthly meeting, January’s will be held on January 14th at the same time and place:

January 14th – 7PM

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences @ Sports Complex – Community Room (2nd Floor)

1634 18th Street Santa Monica, CA 90404
