The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) have announced their nominees for Camera Operator of the Year in both film in television, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award for gear manufacturer Cartoni.
The year’s nominees for Camera Operator of the Year for Film and Television are probably no surprise, given the high quality of the movies and shows listed. In particular, Star Wars and Revenant on the film side and Scandal and Mozart In The Jungle on television have been praised for their visual delights. The nominees also showcase an interesting and diverse selection of entertainment. Bill McClelland, Awards Executive Producer and SOC board member explains, “We are thrilled to have this caliber of nominees representing the craft and artistry of operating. This year’s nominees are an example of the diversity in movie and television styles.” The full list of nominees include:

On the other side of the spectrum, Cartoni’s Lambda Head will be the recipient of the SOC’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Technical Achievement, as it has been used “on the majority of productions” according to Eric Fletcher, SOC board member and Chairman of the Technology Committee. “The Lambda engineering is superb supporting the Camera Operator with ease of use, quality of design and producing superior on screen results”. With Cartoni’s legacy and the strength of the product, it’s no wonder they’ll take home the trophy on February 6th.
The SOC Awards will be this coming February 6th at Paramount Studios. You can actually purchase tickets for the event, with early bird pricing at $125 until January 12, 2016 at midnight. After that tickets rise to $175.

Los Angeles, CA (January 5, 2016) — The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) today announces recipients of its 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for Technical Achievement in addition to the Camera Operator of the Year for Film and Television nominees.
The Society of Camera Operators 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for Technical Achievement is awarded to Cartoni for the Lambda head.
