Variety’s Chief Film Critic Justin Chang’s Five Lessons From the Industry’s Great Editors

A great film editor is a great storyteller — not just a creative technician, but an artist who has JustinChangHeadshota hand in shaping every moment of the finished work. Distilling the wisdom of the 17 editors interviewed in his book FilmCraft: Editing, Variety chief film critic Justin Chang discusses the crucial role of this oft-misunderstood craft, specifically how good (and bad) editing can impact the rhythm of a narrative, the quality of a performance and the emotional impact of a story.
