Pond 5 is a “marketplace for buying and selling videos, music, sound effects and After Effects templates”. We stopped to talk with Steve Peñafiel about their business model and how well they integrate with Adobe’s Premiere Pro.
As Peñafiel shows us you need only download Pond 5’s Premiere Pro plugin to merge the two programs, and doing so will get you 50 free stock media files. Then the plugin calls up Pond 5’s entire library within Premiere Pro iteslf, allowing you to search, filter, download and buy all from within Premiere. You can even quickly download a low res version of clips, then drag it directly to your timeline to see what they’ll look like in your project. Or simply scrub through the clips like any other media file within Premiere. Then you just replace it with the higher res clip once you’ve purchased it, the window for which is also integrated within Premiere.
As for their business model, Peñafiel points out that Pond 5 offers the “highest payout” for clips at 50%. The artist has full freedom to price their content as they wish, whenever they wish. Pond 5 also lets you contact the artist directly about their work, providing everyone a direct line to content producers they’d like to see more of. For those who have massive amounts of footage sitting and collecting “digital dust” Pond 5 is a perfect way to monetize that footage.
