At the launch party for Sigma Burbank, we ran into notable cinematographer Vance Burberry. With a storied career spanning music videos, commercials, underwater, features and more, Burberry has spent a bit of time recently with the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. We spoke with him about using the camera with Blackmagic RAW, its dual ISO, dynamic range, whether it matches the URSA Mini Pro and more.
Burberry’s quick rundown gives you a nice sense of the camera’s strengths, such as the noise levels in darkness being great. His test footage below is a testament that a nice color grade can just about eliminate any noise from deep darkness you may shoot.
In addition to Burberry’s view on the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, he has also spent a bit of time with the URSA Mini Pro and Blackmagic RAW on a recent National Geographic spot. He goes into a bit of detail on the file sizes, file compression and more, giving some idea of how the new codec works in practice.
