Hosted by Pond5 and the LA-based Filmmakers Alliance, “How Will You Tell Your Story” will challenge fillmakers to create a 2-5 minute short that incorporates footage from Pond5’s stock footage collection.
Films will be filtered through voting on YouTube, with the top top ten films being chosen by the number of “likes” on the video. The final 10 will be screened at an awards ceremony on November 8th at the Montalban Theater where final judging will take place. The Grand Prize is $2,000 plus an annual Pond5 membership (worth $499), with additional prizes for first and second place winners. With industry judges including film and TV producer Bonnie Bruckheimer, festival programmer and producer Ana Souza (Sundance, LA Film Festival), and Shorts HD/Movies That Matter VP of Global Acquisitions Linda Olszewski, the Pond5 “How Will You Tell Your Story?” contest is open to all filmmakers.
The Prizes
- Grand Prize: $2,000 and an annual Pond5 membership ($499 value)

- 2nd Prize: $250 and a Pond5 membership ($499 value)
How to Enter
- Select a maximum of 30 media files from the Pond5 Membership collection and create a personal collection featuring your selections.
- All applicable files are labeled with a star icon, so be sure it’s on the ones you’re choosing.
- Make sure to set the collection you create to “Public” so you’re able to share it.
- Once your collection is complete and you’ve made it public, email a link to your collection ALONG WITH YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS to us at storycontest@pond5.com.
- We’ll create a non-watermarked downloadable version of your collection and send it to you via a Google Drive link (free of charge to participants of the competition).
- Create your short film around the theme of “story,” at least 25% composed of stock footage from the Pond5 collection you created. All other material (75% or less) can be original content.
- Films must be between 2-5 minutes in length.
- When your film is complete, upload your video to YouTube and tag it with #Pond5Story.
- Email storycontest@pond5.com with a link to your video and we’ll confirm your entry has been received.
- To be considered for an award, you must attend the ceremony at the Montalban Theater in LA on November 8th. Entrants who do not attend will not be eligible to win.
- Submissions will be accepted until 11:59pm PDT on November 1, 2017.
